The Bond - Saplings

Two days and nights of adventure and connection.  Celebrating that most sacred of relationships, that between a father and his son. Come down to the Nomad camp and learn new skills, make new friends, sleep a night under canvas and enjoy a fun packed time of shared experiences with your father/son.

Upon arrival you will be welcomed by Tom and Lawrence, who will be looking after you for the duration of the experience, and we begin with a friendly cuppa and a piece of cake!  We then enter into a chat and get to know each other a little better through answering a series of questions about ourselves and your father-son relationship.  This builds the foundations for a memorable and meaningful time together.  You are invited to switch off your devices and spend the duration of your time with us connected only to the wilderness and the people around you - not 4G or WiFi!

The sons attending this retreat should be between the ages of 14 and 17.  (Our Sprouts retreat in July is suitable for younger boys)

The aim of the retreat is to cultivate a wonderful shared experience for the two of you to enjoy in the moment and to fondly look back on.  There will be challenges along the way that you will face individually and together, all intended to bring increased strength and joy to your bond.  There will be; getting to know how to safely work with fire and knives, fun crafting projects, cooking on a fire, learning new and exciting skills, and time to spend apart from the group to simply be in nature and relax.

All of these activities are delivered in the the unique style we have developed at Nomad, each having meaning and purpose and valuable learnings attached to them.  This is more than just bushcraft skills and having fun, it is a connection to a part of ourselves that might not have been out to play for a while.  This is a combination of exercises and challenges that brings awareness back to ourselves and to our environment, with the intention of finding a better connection to nature, ourselves and to your family - essential elements for a positive society...

During your time with us on this retreat you will be fed hearty and healthy vegetarian food from our kitchen fire for  lunch and dinner and at any other point in the day that we can find an excuse for!  We love eleven-sies, mid afternoon snacks, and hight tea and supper too!

Tom Otter is a ‘good enough’ father of three, an enthusiastic outdoor educator who carries with him his mission: “to reintroduce humans to the wild”!  He has a deep passion for sharing meaningful skills and stories, as well as feeding the bellies and souls of his guests.  Tom also has a deep connection with the journey of men, through childhood, adolescence and adulthood including especially fatherhood.  First to admit he doesn't have all the answers, and that he made and makes many mistakes, he is determined to gather the learnings from each experience.

Lawrence Joye

Lawrence is a coach and facilitator who supports humans on their journeys of self discovery, nature connection and conscious community living. He is also a new father and loves to connect with and learn from other men at all stages of the fatherhood path. Over the past year, Lawrence has been delving into men’s work, sitting in circles and co-creating retreats and workshops. Through witnessing the powerful shifts that men of all ages experience when they feel safe, seen and heard, Lawrence has a lot of energy for this work. He and Tom are united in their belief that the simple act of being in the trees opens hearts, minds and insights.
