The finer details:
This is a practical, skills based course where you will learn the techniques needed to make a straight wood Ger. You will get some decent mileage in using your newly acquired skills and knowledge, working together as a group to communally build a structure. I will provide lots of handy information that took me years to find out including what materials to order and how much, dimensions and the skills required to calculate some of the important bits – basically a blue print for you to go home and create your own from scratch.
You will make a lattice wall section, component parts of a ring or wheel, measure, cut and sew various parts of the canvas, measure and shape the roof poles, be part of making the door and door frame. The Ger that you help build will be used at local community events and as accommodation on our nature connection retreats.
We will be using locally sourced and milled larch from The timber cooperative, based in Caernarfon. This is not a bent wood yurt, we are not using coppiced roundwood poles. This is an accessible, guided DIY project that you can replicate
at home and get beautiful results.
Hot lunch and refreshments are included in the package.
This will be a four day course held in the beautiful grounds at Bryn Llys in Bethedsda N.Wales, if you want to camp/stay in a yurt/park a van, please select the +accommodation option.
